It would be easy to suggest that this result is a forgone conclusion given how good the Netherlands were and how average the French were in their opening games. But if Raymond Domenech gets over himself and puts out a good French team (including starting Henry and Diarra and not letting Florent Malouda anywhere near the pitch) then they will be more of a match for the Netherlands than Italy were.
I’m not utterly convinced by Franck Ribery but people seem to salivate over him so we’ll see if he can rise to the challenge against Gio van Bronckhorst - that’s if van Basten plays the attack-minded left back or takes a risk with Wilfred Bouma.
But if there is a risk to the Netherlands it is at the back with the likes of André Ooijer and Khalid Boulahrouz (although he was solid against Italy) not inspiring much confidence and perhaps lacking in pace against the likely forward line of Benzema and Henry. No, I don’t expect Nicolas Anelka to be considered - maybe not ever again after his dismal performance against Romania.
Very tough game to call in an exciting group. It’ll be close and cagey but we’ll go for a draw.

Romania don’t offer too much up front but they are very well organised and strong through the centre. Adrian Mutu did not play the full 90 minutes against France and he should be up for playing against the country where he makes his living with Fiorentina.

Austria did well against Croatia but they weren’t any great shakes. Watching them play reminded me of an exciteable and energetic English Championship team who would get their ass handed to them on the big stage.
On the other hand Poland battled well against one of the tournament favourites and showed they have the potential to bring the group to the last game. They must attack in this game, maybe bringing in Roger and Marek Saganowski from the start. There’s no point in Poland going in to the last 30 minutes at 0-0 or, even worse, behind. They should look to establish a lead and then batten down the hatches.
Austria had some awful players on show at the weekend. Emanuel Pogatetez should have been sent off in the first half; Roland Linz and Martin Harnik hardly had a kick. He probably won’t last 90 minutes but their inspirational captain, 38 year old Ivica Vastic, is likely to be fundamental to anything they manage to achieve.
It won’t be a cakewalk for Poland but I think the Austrians will be going home after this game.

Today two years since their last appearence Switzerland plays a competitive match, the co-hosts kick off UEFA EURO 2008™ against the Czech Republic and is all set to make a mega event begin with a bang!!In a recent chat the czech striker Martin Fenin had remarked that they would crush switzerland 7-0 , the logic behind the same is the loss of switzerland to Germany 4-0in a recent friendly match. However the same Germany had to eat dust at the hands of Czech 3-0. So Martin uses his arithmetical skill and make his jovial prediction??!!. However one need to keep in mind that the Czech is ranked sixth in the world to the 48 of Switzerland in FIFA list!. .

A positive result in the match will give this a nation a fiilip who are approaching the tournament more in hope than expectation. Kuhn said the supporters will act as a "12th man" in the tight confines of St. Jakob-Park.In his last days of coaching career, the 64-year-old is keeping the fingers crossed thinking of what lies ahead.
'Enthusiasm'"In training we have played with great enthusiasm, commitment and desire," said Kuhn. "It's great fun to be with this squad, to prepare for the EURO and to get started. The first match is absolutely vital. It is going to be difficult, we're aware of that, but we'll try to play the best football we can and try to win every game." Inspite of the serious illness to his wife Alice, this committed coach has drawn strength from the support of those around him. "Everyone stands behind me and supports me wherever they can and that gives confidence."
